International Academic Publication Success by Our Pharmacy Student Zeynep Arslan
An academic study prepared by Zeynep ARSLAN, a fifth-year student in the English-language program at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Lokman Hekim University, as part of her graduation project, achieved a significant milestone by being published in Reproductive Toxicology, an international peer-reviewed scientific journal.
Conducted under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Sonia SANAJOU, the study focused on the effects of PFAS compounds on human reproductive and perinatal health outcomes. The publication represents a significant academic achievement developed during undergraduate education.
Research Focused on PFAS and Reproductive Health
Titled “Non-serum PFAS biomarkers and human reproductive/perinatal outcomes: A systematic review,” the study examined the relationship between PFAS exposure measured in non-serum biological matrices and reproductive or perinatal health outcomes.
The review evaluated scientific evidence on PFAS detected in follicular fluid, placenta, human milk, semen, urine, and hair samples, and analyzed their potential associations with embryo quality, fetal growth, pregnancy outcomes, birth weight, and reproductive health indicators.
From Graduation Project to International Scientific Publication
The research successfully completed the academic review and publication process and was accepted for publication in the international scientific literature. The achievement highlights the potential of undergraduate research projects to contribute meaningfully to academic and professional fields.
Zeynep ARSLAN’s inclusion as the first author of the publication also reflects her active contribution to the research and scientific writing process throughout the study.
Academic Mentorship and Research Development
Under the academic guidance of Assist. Prof. Sonia SANAJOU, the project involved comprehensive stages including research design, data evaluation, scientific analysis, and academic writing.
The integration of scientific research into undergraduate education continues to play an important role in supporting students’ academic development and strengthening their research competencies.
