Medical Aromatherapy Seminar Held
Date: 09.03.2026
Scientific Perspectives on the Use of Essential Oils in Healthcare
The Faculty of Pharmacy at Lokman Hekim University organized the “Medical Aromatherapy Seminar”, which was held on March 7, 2026, at the A Block, 1st Floor Conference Hall of our university.
The seminar, which explored the use of plant-derived essential oils in healthcare within a scientific framework, attracted significant interest from students—particularly those from the Faculty of Pharmacy—as well as participants interested in health sciences.
Historical and Scientific Foundations of Aromatherapy
During the seminar, the historical development of aromatherapy was discussed, tracing its evolution from traditional practices to contemporary scientific research.
Participants learned that the use of aromatherapy in healthcare should be grounded not only in traditional knowledge but also supported by pharmaceutical sciences and evidence-based research.
Chemical Composition and Extraction of Essential Oils
The seminar also addressed the chemical composition of essential oils, their extraction methods from plant sources, and the quality standards that should be considered during production processes.
Speakers emphasized the importance of proper dosage and safe usage principles to ensure both effectiveness and safety in healthcare applications.
Aromatherapy from the Perspective of Pharmaceutical Sciences
The topic of aromatherapy was evaluated from the perspective of pharmaceutical sciences, highlighting its relationship with the fields of phytochemistry and pharmacognosy.
It was emphasized that the therapeutic potential of plant-based compounds should be investigated through scientific methodologies and integrated into healthcare practices through evidence-based approaches.
