Date: 13.02.2026

The Department of Midwifery at Lokman Hekim Üniversitesi organized an Episiotomy Workshop for third-year students on 13 February 2026 at the LHU A Block Conference Hall (Floor -1). The full-day program was structured to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical clinical application.

From Theory to Practice: Building Clinical Competence

Episiotomy is a surgical intervention performed under specific clinical indications during childbirth. The workshop addressed not only technical skills but also clinical decision-making, ethical considerations, and complication management.

Sessions covered anatomical knowledge, incision techniques, suturing methods, and aseptic principles. Participants practiced on simulation models, allowing them to refine their procedural skills in a controlled environment.

Simulation-Based Learning Approach

The use of anatomical models and simulation materials enabled students to practice repeatedly in a safe learning setting before entering clinical environments. This approach supports the development of psychomotor competencies and clinical confidence.

Individualized feedback during the training further enhanced skill acquisition and learning retention.

Ethical and Professional Responsibility

The workshop emphasized that episiotomy is not merely a technical procedure but one that requires careful ethical consideration, informed consent, and respect for maternal rights.

By integrating technical training with ethical awareness, the program reinforced a holistic approach to maternal care.

Contribution to Clinical Readiness

The workshop provided students with a structured opportunity to enhance preparedness for clinical rotations. A reflective session at the end of the program allowed participants to evaluate their learning outcomes and consolidate their experiences.
