The 5th National Lokman Hekim Nutrition and Dietetics Symposium, organized by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Lokman Hekim University, was held online on 29–30 November 2025. Bringing together current research topics, clinical practice examples, and contributions from young researchers, the symposium provided a shared academic platform for participants from various universities across Türkiye.
Opening Session and General Framework
The two-day program began with opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Ayla Gülden PEKCAN and Prof. Dr. Fatih GÜLTEKİN. The speakers highlighted recent developments in the field, the evolving role of nutrition and dietetics in public health, and the importance of encouraging student-driven scientific research.
Current Approaches and Student Presentations
The first day featured sessions addressing a wide range of topics, including the role of polyphenols in healthy aging, ethical considerations in the use of dietary supplements, digital platforms in diet counseling, and approaches to malnutrition screening. Each session combined academic presentations with student research talks, creating a dynamic environment that encouraged active participation and scientific exchange.
Sustainable Nutrition and Emerging Research Themes
The second day focused on school-based nutrition models, alternative protein sources, and current issues in medical nutrition therapy. Discussions emphasized the growing relevance of sustainability, public health initiatives, and evidence-based interventions in shaping the future of nutrition science.
Scientific Contribution and Overall Assessment
Throughout the two-day program, the symposium offered a comprehensive academic setting that supported interdisciplinary dialogue and highlighted emerging research trends within the field. The inclusion of student presentations played a key role in promoting scientific engagement and fostering a culture of inquiry. Participants noted that the symposium provided a productive and informative forum enriched by current data, diverse content, and a strong student-centered structure.
