Lokman Hekim University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Midwifery 1st year students took their first steps into the profession with a uniform wearing and badge pinning ceremony held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The ceremony, which was held in the A Block -1st floor conference hall, was attended by university administrators, academics, students and their families.
Opening Speeches and Messages
The opening speeches of the ceremony were delivered by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Mehmet Altuğ, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Zehra Gölbaşı, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Nilgün Bek and Head of the Department of Midwifery Prof. Dr. Ayten Şentürk Erenel.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Mehmet Altuğ addressed the families and said “Young people are entrusted to us” and emphasized that students should be determined throughout their academic lives. Altuğ thanked everyone who attended the ceremony and wished the students success.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Zehra Gölbaşı emphasized the sanctity of the midwifery profession and the importance of women's health in society. Gölbaşı emphasized the support of Lokman Hekim University to the midwifery department, saying “Our hope is in the youth”.
“Success at Lokman Hekim”
Prof. Dr. Nilgün Bek, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, stated in her speech that Lokman Hekim University represents the synthesis of east and west in the field of health and said, “We are an educational institution where the most correct steps are taken in the midwifery profession.”
Head of Midwifery Department Prof. Dr. Ayten Şentürk Erenel talked about the historical process, difficulties and subtleties of the midwifery profession. Erenel stated that the students have a long road ahead of them, but they will walk this road together.
Emotional Moments and Documentary Screening
Ezgi Ay, the director of the documentary “Ebe”, which tells the story of a young midwife in a remote village in Anatolia, attended the ceremony online. There were emotional moments in the hall during the screening of the documentary.
First Step into the Profession
The ceremony ended with the 1st year midwifery students wearing uniforms and badges. The excitement of all students taking their first steps into the profession was shared by everyone in the hall. The students were wished success in their academic and professional lives.
