Meaningful Donation from Lokman Hekim University Students: Therapeutic Play Materials for Pediatric Patients
Lokman Hekim University students supported the treatment processes of pediatric patients by donating the special play materials they prepared within the scope of the “Therapeutic Use of Play in Children” course to hospitals. These materials, designed as the final assignment of the course coded 102142, were donated to be used in pediatric clinics on Friday, February 14, 2025.
This project brought together the mission of university students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and to serve the society. The prepared therapeutic play materials aimed to reduce the anxiety and stress that children experience in the hospital environment and to make the treatment processes more enjoyable and bearable. It was especially aimed to contribute to the psychological and emotional well-being of children undergoing long-term treatment.
The project coordinator and lecturer of the course stated that the students not only completed an academic assignment with this study, but also fulfilled a social responsibility. “Utilizing the healing power of play in the treatment processes of children reveals the feelings of compassion and empathy of our students studying in the field of health,” he said.
The donated play materials included educational card games, puzzles, emotion expression sets and interactive toys designed for the hospital environment. These materials helped children feel more comfortable and improve their communication skills during the treatment process.
With such social responsibility projects, Lokman Hekim University contributed to the professional and personal development of its students and raised individuals who are sensitive to the needs of society. The project was recorded as a step that strengthened the university's ties with the society.
