  • The "VI. Food and Healthy Nutrition Symposium" on "The Pandemic of the Century: Obesity," organized by TÜBA under the auspices of Lokman Hekim University, was held.

    The symposium, programmed by the Food and Nutrition Working Group led by Prof. Dr. Kazim Şahin, a member of TÜBA focusing on Turkey's priority and strategic areas as well as critical issues on the global agenda, deeply addressed the causes, global impacts, and scientific and societal responses to obesity, defined as the excessive accumulation of fat in the body that disrupts health. The effects of obesity were examined with a comprehensive approach, and various strategies to combat the growing obesity problem were discussed. The symposium also explored what can be done at national and global levels to combat obesity and how more effective roadmaps can be prepared against this pandemic. A report containing the results of the symposium, including sessions on the Definition, Causes, and Consequences of Obesity, Medical Nutrition Therapy for Obesity, Other Treatment Methods for Obesity, and Obesity and Lifestyle Habits, will be shared with the public in the coming days.

    The opening of the symposium was conducted by TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, Lokman Hekim University Board of Trustees Chairman Mehmet Altuğ, TÜBA Principal Member and Lokman Hekim University Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Gülten, and TÜBA Principal Member and Fırat University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Kazim Şahin. President Şeker presented Prof. Gültekin with a gift for his contributions, the recently published work "Local History of the National Struggle 1918-1923," in collaboration with Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University (FSMVÜ).
