Organized by the Assessment and Evaluation Commission to contribute to the academic development of our Department of Nursing faculty members and to enhance the quality of assessment and evaluation processes, the training session titled “Assessment and Evaluation Techniques for Open-Ended Questions” was conducted with the participation of Dr. Ömer Kutlu, a retired faculty member from the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Ankara University.
During the training, which drew significant interest from all our faculty members, Dr. Kutlu shared key tips on writing high-quality open-ended questions and creating comprehensive answer keys in the first phase. In the second part of the training, an interactive session was conducted using exam questions currently used within the School of Nursing. The training covered the processes of revising existing questions and standardizing answer keys, illustrated with examples. Additionally, the formulas for calculating the discrimination index and item difficulty index—which enable the scientific analysis of exam results—were presented.
The training concluded with a mutual exchange of views aimed at addressing participants’ questions and improving the evaluation processes.
