As part of the ‘Science Communication Office’ project launched by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), a Science Communication Office has also been established at Lokman Hekim University. The office, which will operate under the Rectorate, aims to share scientific studies more effectively with the public.
Lokman Hekim University Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Gültekin emphasised in his statement that scientific knowledge should not remain confined to academic circles, saying, ‘As science and technology advance rapidly, it is of great importance to bring these developments to the public. We are proud to contribute to this meaningful project initiated by YÖK.’
Prof. Dr. Gültekin noted that the Science Communication Office will use both traditional and digital communication tools effectively to ensure that academic studies produced at the university reach wider audiences. He also stated that various training programmes and workshops will be organised to raise awareness among young researchers on science communication.
The Science Communication Office, which will begin its activities in April, will bring scientists together with the public through meetings called ‘Science Cafés.’ In these events, where scientific topics will be discussed in simple language, academics will talk about many current topics, from nanotechnology to artificial intelligence, climate change to space studies, in a conversational setting over tea and coffee.
Prof. Dr. Gültekin stated that Lokman Hekim University aims to serve as a bridge between society and science, saying, ‘With the Science Café events, scientific knowledge will not remain confined to the campus but will be shared with the public. Our goal is to transform science into a format that everyone can understand and find interesting. I invite all academics, students, and media representatives to support this initiative.’
