Within the scope of the activities organised by Lokman Hekim University Faculty of Medicine, the panel titled ‘Basic Principles of Elderly Health and Care’ was held on Saturday, 12 April 2025 at the A Block Conference Hall of the university.
A Comprehensive Programme
Many important issues related to the aging process were discussed in the panel. Following the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Ülger provided important information to the participants with his presentation titled ‘How Do We Protect Our Brain from Aging?’. The following topics came to the fore in the programme, which was held in three separate sessions throughout the day:
- Overview of Ageing: Demographic changes, multidisciplinary approaches in geriatric care and frailty were discussed.
- Common Chronic Diseases in the Elderly: Common health problems in old age such as hypertension, diabetes, musculoskeletal system diseases and dementia were discussed.
- Healthy Ageing: Topics such as protection from infections in old age, the role of physical activity, nutritional requirements and psycho-social support mechanisms that improve quality of life were covered.
Evaluation and Closing
The panel ended with a discussion session with the participation of moderators and speakers, followed by an evaluation and closing session. Muhammet Güven, Ülkü Aypar and Cemile Özsürekci also took part in the event as moderators.
Lokman Hekim University aims to increase knowledge sharing in the field of health and improve social awareness with such events. Participants stated that the panel was very productive as it included up-to-date information on elderly health and care.
