NEJM AI covers the application of AI methodologies and data science to biomedical informatics, connected health, telemedicine, medical imaging, personalized medicine, policy and regulation, and the ethical and medical legal implications of AI.
Aims and Scope
NEJM AI is an interdisciplinary journal that facilitates dialog between stakeholders invested in using AI to transform medicine. NEJM AI intentionally pairs “preclinical” and clinical articles to offer critical context to both clinicians and non-clinician researchers. The journal combines fast-moving advances in AI, informatics and technology in medicine with the application of these advances to clinical practice. NEJM AI covers the application of AI methodologies and data science to biomedical informatics, connected health, telemedical, medical imaging, personalized medicine, policy and regulation, and the ethical and medico-legal implications of AI.
Adhering to the rigorous peer review and quality standards expected of the NEJM Group, NEJM AI publishes
- Clinical trials of AI or AI-assisted diagnosis or treatment, or original research, including groundbreaking technology, new applications of medical AI, and other rigorous evaluations of medical AI.
- Datasets, Metrics and Protocols, reports describing new datasets, shared metrics for the medical machine learning community, and reproducible or novel protocols or study designs that can be adapted for other trials.
- Case Studies, first-person accounts of implementation challenges and lessons learned from a specific deployment of medical AI.
- Reviews, peer-reviewed articles on clinically relevant new machine learning methods, emerging applications, and training topic areas of clinical relevance to machine learning researchers and clinical audiences.
- Perspectives covers current and topical issues in healthcare and medicine related to AI in a concise and understandable style.
