Organized by the Cleft Lip, Cleft Palate and Related Anomalies Treatment Application and Research Center (DUDAMER) operating within Lokman Hekim University, “DUDAMER Course III: Live Surgery, Surgical Model Simulation and Virtual Surgical Planning” was held on March 14-15, 2025 with intense participation. Expert academicians and young surgeons came together at the event where modern surgical approaches were discussed both theoretically and practically.

Current Surgical Approaches Met with Participants

The two-day program aimed to convey the latest methods in the field of oral, maxillofacial and facial surgery through interactive applications. The first day of the course started with live surgeries from the operating room. Participants had the opportunity to directly watch the operations performed by Prof. Reha KİŞNİŞÇİ and the operating room team consisting of our specialists, and evaluated the surgical processes in detail with case-based analysis. In the second part of the day, surgical model simulation applications were carried out. In this session, which enabled theoretical knowledge to be put into practice, participants gained experience on simulated cases.

The second day continued with sessions focused on virtual surgical planning. Following the opening speeches, the concept of virtual surgery, 3D workflows and diagnostic processes were detailed. Determining the natural head position, treatment planning and evaluation of virtual surgery processes with case studies provided the participants with comprehensive information about current methods. In the afternoon sessions, the order of priority between maxilla and mandible surgeries was discussed and virtual surgical plans were transferred.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques Discussed Practically

In the last part of the course, minimally invasive orthognathic surgery techniques were discussed. Current surgical applications such as chin tip osteotomy, sagittal split ramus osteotomy and Le Fort I osteotomy were detailed with case-based simulations. Participants had the opportunity to evaluate the advantages, application processes and potential complications of these techniques with expert academicians.

Honorary Plaque Presented to Prof. Dr. Gwen SWENNEN

At the closing of the training program, Prof. Dr. Reha KİŞNİŞÇİ from Lokman Hekim University presented a plaque of appreciation and a certificate of honor to Prof. Dr. Gwen SWENNEN for her contributions to the course. In addition, the health professionals who participated during the program and those who contributed to the organization were not forgotten; certificates of participation and appreciation were presented to them.

    Strengthening Scientific and Academic Collaboration

This prestigious training program organized by DUDAMER enabled the sharing of innovative approaches in the field of oral, maxillofacial and facial surgery and strengthened academic and clinical collaborations. The positive feedback from the participants once again demonstrated the importance of continuing similar scientific events.
