What Is Nursing?
Nursing is a healthcare profession focused on protecting, improving, and sustaining the health of individuals, families, and communities. It takes a holistic approach by considering people’s biological, psychological, social, spiritual, and emotional needs. Nursing combines scientific knowledge with professional practice and is responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care, as well as health education.
In the United States, nursing has been ranked as the most trusted profession across all fields. In recognition of its global importance, the World Health Organization designated 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.”
Roles and Responsibilities of Nurses
Nursing is a regulated profession with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. As essential members of the healthcare team, nurses are involved in patient care planning, implementation, and evaluation. They support patients and their families through information and guidance, contribute to clinical decision-making, and ensure effective coordination within multidisciplinary teams. The scope of nursing practice is defined by national laws and professional regulations.

Are Graduate Studies in Nursing Available?
Yes. A Master’s Program with Thesis in Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing is offered. Graduate education is also available in other nursing specialties, supporting both academic and professional advancement.
Admission Requirements for the Faculty of Nursing
The Faculty of Nursing, within the Faculty of Health Sciences, admits students through the national Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) using the Quantitative score type.
What Does the Nursing Curriculum Cover?
The nursing curriculum is designed in line with the Turkish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education and the National Core Nursing Education Program. The four-year undergraduate program includes theoretical and practical courses in basic medical sciences and core nursing disciplines.
Clinical Practice and Internship Opportunities
Throughout their undergraduate education, students take part in clinical practice as an integral part of their coursework. Practical training is provided in areas such as fundamentals of nursing, internal medicine nursing, surgical nursing, obstetrics and gynecology nursing, pediatric nursing, mental health nursing, and public health nursing. Clinical placements are carried out in public hospitals and Lokman Hekim Hospitals.
Is There a Mandatory Summer Internship?
There is no compulsory summer internship requirement at the Faculty of Nursing.
Double Major and Minor Opportunities
Faculty of Nursing students may apply for minor programs offered by other departments within the Faculty of Health Sciences, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. Information and guidance regarding these opportunities are shared during the academic year.
Student Exchange Programs
The university participates in Erasmus+, Farabi, and Mevlana student exchange programs. Nursing students who meet the application requirements may take part in Erasmus+ study and internship mobility programs. Detailed information is provided through the International Relations Office during the academic year.
Transfer Opportunities
Horizontal transfer opportunities are available at the Faculty of Nursing. Detailed conditions and procedures are outlined in the university’s transfer regulations.
Education During the COVID-19 Period
Before the pandemic, compulsory courses such as Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms, Turkish Language, and Information Technologies were already delivered online. During the COVID-19 period, all theoretical courses were conducted through distance learning systems, ensuring continuity in education.
