Faculty of Nursing organized a conference titled “Access to Mental Health in Disasters and Emergencies” to raise awareness on World Mental Health Day, October 10.

The event, held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the LHU C Block Conference Hall, addressed the importance of protecting mental health and providing psychosocial support during disasters and emergencies.

The opening speeches of the program were delivered by Head of the Nursing Department Prof. Dr. Belgin AKIN NALÇACI and Head of the Department of Psychiatric Nursing Prof. Dr. Fatma ÖZ. In their speeches, they emphasized the role of nurses in psychological support processes during disasters and the importance of mental health services in terms of social recovery.

At the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meltem MERİÇ shared scientific approaches to strengthening psychological resilience after disasters in her presentation titled “Access to Mental Health and Solutions in Disasters and Emergencies.” Then, Lecturer Nurbanu ODACI shared examples from her field experience in her presentation titled “Access to Mental Health Services in Disasters: Notes from a Public Health Nurse in the Field.”

The conference was held with the active participation of students and academic-administrative staff. Participants stated that they gained important insights regarding the need to strengthen access to mental health services in disaster situations.

Lokman Hekim University Faculty of Nursing continues to raise student awareness and emphasize the importance of a holistic approach in health services through such events.
