Hosted by Lokman Hekim University and eagerly awaited by the pharmacy community, the III Forensic Pharmacy Symposium was successfully held today with valuable speakers and intense participation. In the symposium, where current, professionally and socially important issues in the field of forensic pharmacy and toxicology were discussed, a full day was experienced with scientific sharing, case analysis and experience sharing.
The first minutes of the day started with opening speeches. In his speech,Prof. Dr. İlkay Erdoğan ORHAN, Dean of Lokman Hekim University Faculty of Pharmacy, said, "Forensic pharmacy is a field that directly concerns public health and is of great importance for the safety and quality of life of the society. This symposium is very valuable for the future of our profession “ and emphasized the meaning of the program. Then, Secretary General of Ankara Chamber of Pharmacists, Pharm. Ahmet ÇAKAN underlined the unity within the profession by saying "Scientific solidarity and strong communication between our colleagues will shape the future of the pharmacy profession ”. Prof. Dr. Fatih GÜLTEKİN, Rector of Lokman Hekim University, who was the third name of the opening speeches, said, "Our university will continue to contribute to the society with pioneering and qualified studies in the field of health sciences. This symposium is an important reflection of this vision “ and reiterated their academic support. Lastly, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Mehmet ALTUĞ took the floor and said, "Such scientific organizations build not only knowledge but also a vision for the future. We should all work together for a stronger professional future “ and thanked all participants who contributed to the symposium.
The 1st session started after the opening speeches and was moderated by Prof. Dr. Göknur YALIM and Prof. Dr. Belma KONUKLUĞİL. In the session, Prof. Dr. Göknur YALIM raised awareness within the profession with her presentation titled “ Duties and Responsibilities of Forensic Pharmacist ”, while LLM. Rezzan GÜNDAY evaluated the legal dimension of professional errors with her speech titled “ Malpractice in Pharmacy ”. Uzm. Pharm. Ahmet Nezihi PEKCAN talked about “ New Horizons and New Technologies in Pharmacy ”, while Ecz. Şeyma ALABAY drew attention to the effects of the digital age on the profession with her presentation titled "Forensic Informatics and Cyber Security for Pharmacists ”.
After a productive first session, Session 2 continued under the moderation of Prof. Dr. Suhiye YILDIZ and Prof. Dr. Benay CAN EKE. In this session, Prof. Dr. Sevgi AKAYDIN presented “ Postmortem Biochemical Changes: Tannatochemistry", Dr. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sonia SANAJOU “ Evaluation of Analysis Results in Forensic Toxicology”, Dr. Ecz. Ahmet BARAN “ Forensic Pharmacovigilance”, Assoc. Prof. Emirhan DEMİRAY “F orensic Medicine Approach in Poisoning Cases ” and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neslihan KÜLAHLIOĞLU “ Abuse of Synthetic Opioids: Forensic and Pharmaceutical Approaches “ shared their knowledge and experiences with the participants.
Session 3, which started after the lunch break, was moderated by Prof. Dr. M. Seçkin ÖZDEN and Prof. Dr. Feyyaz ONUR. Prof. Dr. Mükemmel Betül AYCAN mentioned critical drug interactions in her presentation titled “Important Drug Interactions in Forensic Pharmacy ‘, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Enis MACİT gave a comprehensive information on ’Biological Sample Collection and Collection of Crime Scene Remains for Toxicological Analysis”. Then, Prof. Dr. Aysel BERKKAN presented “ Doping Analyses in Forensic Pharmacy ”, while Assoc . Prof. Dr. Aysun DINÇEL made a presentation on “ Instrumental and Chemical Analyzes Used in Forensic Pharmacy ”.
The last session of the day, Session 4, was moderated by Prof. Dr. Perfect Betül AYCAN and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Semih ÇALAMAK. In this session, Prof. Dr. İbrahim SEMİZOĞLU presented “The Importance of Crime Scene Investigation in terms of Forensic Sciences”, Prof. Dr. F. Sezer ŞENOL DENİZ presented “Plant and Mushroom Poisoning” , Prof. Dr. Esra EMEREC presented “The Role of Antidotes in Poisoning” , Prof. Prof. Dr. İlkay Erdoğan ORHAN “P hytopharmacovigilance Applications”, Superintendent Duygu KARAASLAN “C ombating Drug Addiction ‘ and Ali Osman ELMAS ’C ollection and Documentation of Material Evidence ”.
Academics, pharmacists, forensic medicine specialists and toxicologists had the opportunity to exchange information at the symposium, where intra-professional solidarity came to the fore as well as scientific presentations. Participants stated that the symposium made a great contribution not only academically but also in terms of developing a professional vision. The III Forensic Pharmacy Symposium ended with a closing speech at 17:10 with the hope that it will continue with wider participation in the coming years.
