  • The aim of science is to produce solid knowledge about the entities it deals with. Having scientific method knowledge for scientists encompasses the ability to perform the processes prescribed by this method. It is said that the elucidation of the implicit methodological foundations underlying these skills is the most important problem of the philosophy of science.

Health science is in a constant state of change and development to protect and enhance health and to increase scientific knowledge about diseases in order to provide better treatment and care. The primary source of this change and development is research of high scientific quality. High-quality research is the most reliable source of information on health, disease, and treatments. Well-trained researchers are a key factor in developing health services based on scientific knowledge.

The principle of unity of education and research, which began with John Hopkins and German universities in the early 19th century, is now adopted by many universities worldwide. The concept of defining some universities as research universities, first proposed by Wilhelm von Humboldt in Germany in the 19th century, is now widespread, with many research universities around the world. In our country, efforts to define and monitor Research Universities have been ongoing since 2017. Indeed, it is now expected that universities will develop their potential for producing scientific knowledge alongside education. Global university rankings prioritize research potential as the primary criterion for ranking universities. The expectation for all universities to enhance their research and publication potential clearly indicates the need for highly competent researchers. The most fundamental requirement for training researchers of this caliber is specialized graduate and doctoral education.

Humanity has entered a stage referred to as the 'Knowledge Society' or the 'Post-Industrial Society'. The fundamental measure of a society being a knowledge society is defined not by using knowledge but by producing knowledge. From this perspective, any activity aimed at enhancing the potential for producing scientific knowledge in society is important. In the 21st century, basic science and applied research have increasingly become fundamental functions of universities alongside education. Knowledge and knowledgeable human resources, and the universities that are their source, are also among the most important inputs to the economy. Thus, the qualifications required in the human resources of the knowledge society are summarized as being able to follow, produce, and continuously update knowledge in one's field using existing technologies and foreign language skills. The source of the knowledge, skills, and qualifications required for these attributes will be education in scientific research, particularly postgraduate education.

Lokman Hekim University has been established to have a say in both education and research and to strengthen its position in the country and the world. In this context, besides the diversity of postgraduate programs, ensuring their quality is the primary goal of Lokman Hekim University Health Sciences Institute. We invite all members of the healthcare disciplines who aspire to become scientists to explore and join our programs.
