    Pharmacognosy Master's Program with Thesis was opened within Lokman Hekim University Institute of Health Sciences. The program is carried out by faculty members who are experts in their fields. The Department of Pharmacognosy, one of the basic disciplines of pharmacy, is affiliated to the Department of Pharmacy Vocational Sciences. The program will be carried out by the faculty members of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacognosy. The language of education is Turkish.

    Admission and Registration Requirements

    Student applications, admission and final registrations to the Pharmaceutical Toxicology Master's Program with Thesis are made in accordance with Lokman Hekim University Institute of Health Sciences Graduate Education and Training Directive. Students are admitted to the master's program with thesis by written and / or oral examination. The number of students to be admitted to the program and the qualifications to be sought in candidate students are announced before the beginning of each semester. In this announcement, the application conditions and deadline, the place and date where the candidates will be interviewed are specified.

    Graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy can apply to the program. Turkish or foreign students who have graduated from undergraduate programs in foreign countries must have a certificate of equivalence or recognition from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

    For applications to master's programs with thesis, it is necessary to have the ALES score to be determined by the relevant Graduate School Board, provided that it is not less than 55 points in the score type of the applied program, and the minimum foreign language minimum base score determined by the Department Heads and accepted by the Senate from the Central foreign language exams or international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM.

    Recognition of Prior Learning

    Successful students who have studied at least one semester in graduate programs of the university or other higher education institutions can apply for transfer to another graduate program conducted at the university. In order for the applications to be accepted; There must be graduate transfer student quotas, the student must have met the student admission requirements of the graduate program to which the student wants to transfer and must be successful in each of the courses taken by studying at least one semester of graduate education.

    Acceptance and adjustment of students applying for transfer are carried out in accordance with the relevant articles of Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.

    Qualification Requirements and Rules

    The master's program with thesis consists of at least 7 courses, a seminar course and a thesis study, with a total of not less than 21 credits. Seminar course and thesis study are non-credit and are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. A master's program with thesis consists of a total of at least 120 ECTS credits, including at least eight courses including a seminar course and thesis study, provided that an education period is not less than 60 ECTS credits. 1 ECTS is equivalent to 30 hours of workload. The student must take at least half of the total credits required by the program to which he / she is affiliated from his / her own program, even if he / she has credit transfer courses.  If the advisor deems appropriate and necessary, courses from other programs can also be selected. Students are required to write their thesis in accordance with the 'Institute of Health Sciences Thesis Writing Guide'. The evaluation of students' course success is based on the 'Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations'.

    Purpose of the Program

    The Department of Pharmacognosy, one of the basic disciplines of pharmacy, is affiliated to the Department of Pharmacy Vocational Sciences. The aim of the Pharmacognosy master's program is to train experts in obtaining drug raw materials and excipients from natural sources (plants, animals, microorganisms and marine organisms), determining their chemical content, natural products chemistry and analysis techniques, purification of bioactive molecules and characterization of their chemical structures, obtaining new molecules from nature and evaluating their biological effects, quality control analysis and standardization of natural drug raw materials.

    Program Outcomes (Outcomes)

    1. Gain general knowledge about natural resources and their utilization in the field of pharmacy.

    2. Gain practical knowledge about extraction, chemical content analysis, isolation, purification and activity assays of natural products.

    3. Gains theoretical knowledge about the sub-fields related to pharmacognosy (aromatherapy, homeopathy, etc.).

    4. Gains knowledge about the effect, utilization and side effect profile of natural products.

    5. Gains the habit of following current studies in the field of pharmacognosy and the ability to integrate current knowledge in the field with information from different disciplines.

    6. Conduct their studies in accordance with all kinds of ethical principles and rules and support the development of ethical values.

    Transition to Higher Degree Programs

    Students who graduate from the Pharmacognosy Master's program with thesis can apply to doctoral programs when they meet the other necessary conditions.

    Measurement and Evaluation

    Students are given a course success grade for each course at the end of the semester in which they are enrolled.  The course success grade is obtained by evaluating the success of the student during the semester (midterm exams, homework, applied studies, projects, laboratories and similar studies) and the general exam together. Program courses must be successfully completed in a maximum of two years with a GPA of at least 2.50.

    Graduation Requirements

    A student enrolled in the Master's program must meet the conditions specified in Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations in order to graduate from the program.

    Mode of Study

    The mode of operation is full-time. If necessary, lectures and exams can be held after the end of working hours on weekdays and/or on Saturdays and Sundays, or online synchronously and remotely.
