  • HISTOLOGY EMBRYOLOGY MASTER PROGRAM (WITH THESIS)

General Information Histology and Embryology Master Program (With Thesis) was approved by the decision taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated 15.05.2019 and was opened within the body of the Health Sciences Institute at Lokman Hekim University. The language of instruction is Turkish. The Department of Histology and Embryology is a department that includes two important disciplines in the same department and is constantly updated in the light of these approaches. Histology is a branch of science that defines cells, tissues and organs, which are among the basic components of life, at the microscope level and examines their distinctive features in relation to their functions. Embryology describes the causes of basic congenital malformations by defining the stages of embryonic development. Determines the principles of assisted reproductive techniques and realizes their clinical and research applications. Histology and Embryology makes evaluations on normal or experimental subjects with any type of microscope. Researches are carried out at structural and molecular level with light microscopes and at ultra-structural level with electron microscopes. In studies using cell and embryo cultures, stem cell applications and stereological methods, studies involving immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence techniques are carried out in addition to routine histochemical methods. Experimental models and method applications related to experimental animals are used. Lokman Hekim University Histology and Embryology Master Program is a dynamic program that follows all kinds of developments in the field of Histology and Embryology with a scientific and academic approach in order to keep up with the rapid developments in the world of science. Degree Awarded Graduates awards a "Master's Degree" in Histology and Embryology and become a "Histology and Embryology Scientist". Acceptance and Enrolment Conditions Student applications, acceptances, and final registrations to the Histology and Embryology Master Program (With Thesis) are made in accordance with Lokman Hekim University Health Sciences University Regulation on Graduate Education and Training. In addition, the special conditions required for the students who apply with the recommendation of the Department and the decision of the Institute Administrative Board before each application period, the entrance exam place and date are determined and announced before the application. Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Science, Departments of Biology, Departments of Molecular Biology and Genetics and graduates whose undergraduate / graduate degrees are approved by the Academic Board of the Department can apply to the program. In order for the application to be considered valid, it is necessary to fulfil the conditions required in the Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Training Regulation of the Institute of Health Sciences. Students who pass the Written and Oral Exam conducted by the Department of Histology and Embryology are entitled to enrol in the Histology and Embryology Master Program (With Thesis). Turkish or foreign students who have completed their undergraduate program in foreign countries must have the equivalence or recognition document they will receive from the Higher Education Council (YÖK). In the applications to the program, it is required to have Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) (Mathematics - Science / Turkish - Mathematics) score determined by the Institute Board, provided that it is not less than 55. Students who meet the application requirements are taken to the scientific evaluation exam (written and / or interview). The calculation of the general success grade is made by considering the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) score, the undergraduate graduation grade average and the results of the Scientific evaluation examination. According to the general success grade ranking, within the specified quota, the student is entitled to final registration. Recognition of Prior Learning Graduates of Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Science, Departments of Biology, Departments of Molecular Biology and Genetics and graduates whose undergraduate / graduate degrees are approved by the Academic Board of the Department can apply to the program. In order for the application to be considered valid, it is necessary to fulfil the conditions required in the Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Training Regulation of the Institute of Health Sciences. Qualification Conditions and Rules Histology and Embryology Master Program (With Thesis) consists of at least seven courses, a seminar course and a thesis study, not less than twenty-one credits. The seminar course and thesis work are non-credit and are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. Master Program (With Thesis) consists of at least eight courses including the seminar course and a total of at least 120 ECTS credits, including the seminar course, on the condition that it is not less than 60 ECTS credits for one academic term. 1 ECTS is equivalent to 30 hours of workload. Even if the student has credit transfer courses, the student must receive at least half of the total credit required by the program to which he / she is affiliated, from his / her own program. If the advisor deems appropriate and necessary, courses from other programs can also be selected. The students must have their thesis written in accordance with the ‘Health Sciences Institute’ Thesis Writing Guide. “Lokman Hekim University Regulation on Graduate Education and Training” is taken as a basis for the evaluation of students’ course success. Provided that they pass the thesis exam and meet the other conditions required for graduation determined by the Senate, Master’s Degree Diploma (With Thesis) is awarded to the master program student, who submits at least three bound copies of his / her master program thesis to the relevant institute within 1 (one) month from the date of entrance to the thesis exam and whose thesis is approved in terms of form. Aim of Program The aim of this master program is to educate scientists who have basic theoretical knowledge in histology and Embryology, who can plan and carry out independent research, who have ethical values. In line with this purpose, it is expected that the students who are graduated from the program have to hold the abilities of developing basic qualities such as research, critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, independent decision-making, following up-to-date scientific knowledge and technology, taking responsibility and accountability, being a leader to guide colleagues, having professional values and ethical sensitivity.
