
Orthotics-Prosthetics Master's Program (Thesis)
General Information
Lokman Hekim University, Orthotics-Prosthetics Master's Program with Thesis was approved by the decision taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated 14.02.2024 and opened within Lokman Hekim University Institute of Health Sciences. The program is carried out by expert faculty members in the field. The language of instruction is Turkish.

Admission and Registration Requirements
Student applications to the proposed program, entrance exams (written / interview), calculation of the general success score and placement of students are made in accordance with Lokman Hekim University, Institute of Health Sciences, Graduate Education and Training Directive. In addition, before each application period, with the recommendation of the relevant department and the decision of the institute board of directors, the special conditions, entrance exam place and date are determined and announced before the application.
Students who have graduated from the faculties of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Departments and Orthotic Prosthesis Departments of the Faculties of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculties of Health Sciences, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation) Schools under the roofs of the schools that provide Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation undergraduate education and training, and graduates of other related faculties who have a bachelor's degree deemed appropriate by the Institute Board with the recommendation of the Academic Board of the Department may apply to the proposed program. Turkish or foreign students who have graduated from undergraduate programs in foreign countries are required to have a certificate of equivalence or recognition from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Applications to the proposed program must have an ALES base score of not less than 55, which will be determined by the Board of the Institute of Health Sciences and approved by the Lokman Hekim University Senate. In addition, where necessary, the Foreign Language base score is determined by the Lokman Hekim University Senate.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Successful students who have studied at least one semester in graduate programs of the university or other higher education institutions can apply for transfer to another graduate program conducted at the university. In order for the applications to be accepted; There must be graduate transfer student quotas, the student must have met the student admission requirements of the graduate program to which the student wants to transfer and must be successful in each of the courses taken by studying at least one semester of graduate education.
Acceptance and adjustment of students applying for transfer are carried out in accordance with the relevant articles of Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.
Qualification Requirements and Rules
In order to graduate from the Orthotics-Prosthetics Master's Program with Thesis, the student must complete at least 21 credits and 120 ECTS (at least seven courses, seminar course and thesis study). Seminar course and thesis work are non-credit and are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The student must take at least half of the total credits required by the program to which he / she is affiliated, even if there are credit transfer courses. If the advisor deems it appropriate and necessary, courses from other programs can also be selected. "Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations" are taken as basis in the evaluation of students' course success.
Purpose of the Program
The aims of the Orthotic Prosthetics Master's Program;
- To deepen the theoretical and practical knowledge of Physiotherapy and Orthotics Prosthetics undergraduates learned during their four-year undergraduate education in order to increase the quality with the policy of continuous education,
- To teach the basics of scientific research and evidence-based applications of professional knowledge and skills based on national and international literature,
- To gain the ability to use clinical knowledge specific to the field in different situations and to develop different rehabilitation techniques,
- To be equipped to work with other professionals working in the field of rehabilitation and health in inter-disciplinary, multi-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary research and project development,
- To teach ways of researching and obtaining information on professional issues, presenting information, disseminating information, developing and discussing information,
- To ensure that the results and experiences obtained from professional practice and research are published in a way to contribute to national and international literature,
- Physiotherapy and Orthotics Prosthetics undergraduate graduates, to contribute to the determination and development of the country's health policies to take an active role in the determination and development of sufficient and necessary equipment and quality to reach.
Program Qualifications (Outcomes)
1. Defines learning needs and objectives, continues lifelong learning and contributes to quality improvement, vocational training and promotion programs.
2. Plans researches, takes part in projects, interprets the results of his/her studies by choosing appropriate statistical methods, writes the report and presents or publishes it in scientific meetings.
3. Carries out field-specific applications and researches independently by considering ethical values, transfers professional knowledge and skills and responsibilities to group work.
4. To be able to follow conceptual and clinical scientific developments in basic measurement, evaluation and treatment techniques specific to the field of orthotics and prosthetics,
5. Contributes to public health and health policies, raises awareness of individuals, families and society about education, preventive and rehabilitative approaches.
6. Communicates effectively in the field of professional and academic studies at the international level, both orally and in writing, using at least one foreign language.
Employment Opportunities
There are various employment opportunities for students who graduate from the Orthotics-Prosthetics Master's Program with Thesis according to their specialization areas. They can work as academic staff to support the teaching staff of universities, or they can take an active role in the development and execution of research and projects in national and international research and application centers. In addition, they can be employed in special education centers, prosthetic orthotic workshops, physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedics, neurology and pediatrics departments of hospitals according to their specialization areas.
Access to Higher Degree Programs
Students who graduate from the Orthotics-Prosthetics Master's program can apply to doctoral programs when they meet the other necessary conditions.
Measurement and Evaluation
At the end of the semester, students are given a course success grade for each course. The course success grade is obtained by evaluating the success of the student during the semester (midterm exams, homework, applied studies, projects, laboratories and similar studies) and the general exam together. Program courses must be successfully completed in a maximum of two years with a GPA of at least 2.50.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the Orthotics-Prosthetics Master's program with thesis, the student must have successfully completed all the courses in the program, provide a minimum of 120 ECTS credits, and have a GPA of at least 2.50 out of 4.00. After completing the courses, a student in the master's program with thesis is obliged to prepare a thesis related to his/her field, to write the results of his/her thesis in accordance with the thesis writing rules of the institute and to defend his/her thesis orally in front of the jury. The student's graduation date is the date of the thesis exam in which the master's thesis is accepted.
Mode of Study
The mode of operation is full time. If necessary, courses and exams can be held after the end of working hours on weekdays and/or on Saturdays and Sundays.
