    Sports Pharmacy Non-Thesis Master's Programme was approved by the decision taken at the meeting of the Council of Higher Education dated 21.12.2023 and opened within Lokman Hekim University Institute of Health Sciences. The programme is carried out by expert faculty members in the field. In addition, experts in their field are assigned as guest lecturers at Lokman Hekim University and support is received. The language of instruction is Turkish.

    Admission and enrolment conditions

    Students are admitted to the non-thesis master's programme by written and/or oral examination. The number of students to be admitted to the programme and the qualifications to be sought in candidate students are announced before the beginning of each semester. In this announcement, the application conditions and deadline, the place and date where the candidates will be interviewed are specified.

    Graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy can apply to the programme. Turkish or foreign students who have graduated from undergraduate programmes in foreign countries must have a certificate of equivalence or recognition from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

    Since the proposed programme is a non-thesis master's programme, ALES and foreign language scores are not required for student admission.

    Recognition of prior learning

    Successful students who have studied at least one semester in graduate programmes of the university or other higher education institutions can apply for transfer to another graduate programme carried out at the university. In order for the applications to be accepted; There must be graduate transfer student quotas, the student must have met the student admission requirements of the graduate programme to which the student wants to transfer and must be successful in each of the courses taken by studying at least one semester of graduate education.

    Acceptance and adjustment of students applying for transfer are carried out in accordance with the relevant articles of Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.

    Qualification requirements and rules

    The non-thesis master's programme consists of a total of 30 credits and at least ten courses and a term project course, provided that it is not less than 90 ECTS. 1 ECTS is equivalent to 30 hours of workload. The student must take at least half of the total credits required by the programme to which he/she is affiliated from his/her own programme, even if he/she has credit transfer courses.  If the advisor deems it appropriate and necessary, courses from other programmes can also be selected. Students are required to write their work related to the term project course in accordance with the 'Institute of Health Sciences Thesis Writing Guide'. 'Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations' are taken as basis in the evaluation of students' course success.

    The non-thesis master's programme courses must be completed with a GPA of at least 2.50. In addition, in order to be successful, the student must be successful in the non-thesis master's project course that has received the approval of the advisor. The successful student is awarded a non-thesis master's degree diploma.

    Aim of the programme

    The speciality of Sports Pharmacy primarily aims to provide pharmacy consultancy services in the clinical drug use of athletes, to provide guidance in the selection of the right nutritional supplements, to support athletes in the fight for clean sport and anti-doping efforts. Sports Pharmacy can be expressed as a sub-branch of pharmacy science that directly contributes to athlete health.

    Pharmacists who graduate from the programme providing sports pharmacy education are defined as Sports Pharmacists. Sports Pharmacists take part in pharmaceutical care in the treatment of sports injuries and injuries that may occur during sports as well as sports diseases. They raise awareness and support athletes about clean and fair sport.

    Programme qualifications / outcomes

    Provide pharmacy counselling services in the clinical drug use of athletes.

    Provides support to athletes in the fight for clean sport and anti-doping efforts with knowledge of eastern drug use.

    Provides guidance in the selection of the right nutritional support products.

    Take part in pharmaceutical care in the treatment of athlete diseases.

    Employment opportunities

    Graduates of this programme can work as doping control officer, doping test officer, prohibited list consultant, individual athlete health consultant, consultant pharmacist in sports federations or sports teams, consultant for the production of non-pharmaceutical health products within the Turkish Anti-Doping Commission, in all related public and private institutions or organisations. In addition, pharmacists working in community pharmacies who will graduate from the programme will be able to provide athlete-oriented pharmaceutical care services.

    Graduation requirements

    In order for a student enrolled in the programme to graduate from the programme, he/she must meet the conditions specified in Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.

    Mode of study

    The mode of operation is full-time. If necessary, lectures and exams can be held after the end of working hours on weekdays and/or on Saturdays and Sundays or online synchronised remotely.
