    General Information Medical microbiology is a branch of clinical-related laboratory studies and is a branch of science that deals with microorganisms that cause infectious diseases. “Medical Microbiology Master Program (With Thesis)” is a program that aims to provide graduates who have all important theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of medical microbiology, who have gained an academic perspective and who follow scientific developments. In addition, it is aimed to maximize the quality of Medical Microbiology services and to improve students' self-improvement by carrying out the necessary scientific researches. In this context, theoretical courses on general microbiology, bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology and basic immunology will be given to students with practical applications and microorganisms will be introduced. They will learn about the structure, metabolism, reproductive characteristics, genetics of microorganisms, microbial pathogenesis and chemotherapeutics and antibiotics, disinfection and sterilization within the scope of general microbiology and will be able to interpret the results of microbiology examination. At the end of the program, students will gain knowledge and skills about microorganisms and tests used in the diagnosis of microorganisms. Lokman Hekim University Medical Microbiology Master Program (With Thesis) was established with the decision of the Higher Education Council dated 26.08.2020. The program is carried out by the faculty members of the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy, who have great experience in their fields. The language of instruction of the program is Turkish. Degree Awarded Graduates award a “Master's Degree” in the field of Medical Microbiology and become a "Medical Microbiology Scientist". Acceptance and Enrolment Conditions Student applications, acceptances, and final registrations to the Medical Microbiology Master Program (With Thesis) are made in accordance with Lokman Hekim University Health Sciences University Regulation on Graduate Education and Training. Students are admitted to the master program (with thesis) by taking a written and / or oral exam. The number of students to be admitted to the program and the qualifications required for prospective students are announced before the beginning of each term. In this announcement, the application conditions and the deadline, the place and the date where the candidates will take the exam are stated. Graduates of Medicine, Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, graduates of Health Sciences Faculties, and those who have a bachelor's degree approved by the Institute Board with the recommendation of the Academic Board of the Department can apply to the program. Turkish or foreign students who have completed their undergraduate program in foreign countries must have the equivalence or recognition document they will receive from the Higher Education Council (YÖK). In applications for master programs (with thesis), the score type of the applied program must not be less than 55 points, the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) score determined by the relevant Institute Board and the Central Foreign Language Exams or the international foreign language exams accepted by Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). It is required to have a minimum base score for the foreign language determined by the head of the Departments and accepted by the Senate. Turkish or foreign students who have completed their undergraduate program in foreign countries must have the equivalence or recognition document they will receive from the Higher Education Council (YÖK). Students who meet the application requirements are taken to the scientific evaluation exam (written and / or interview). The calculation of the general success grade is made by considering the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) score, the undergraduate graduation grade average and the results of the Scientific evaluation examination. According to the general success grade ranking, within the specified quota, the student is entitled to final registration. Recognition of Prior Learning Graduates of Medicine, Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, graduates of Health Sciences Faculties, and those who have a bachelor's degree approved by the Institute Board with the recommendation of the Academic Board of the Department can apply to the program. In order for the application to be considered valid, it is necessary to fulfil the conditions required in the Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Training Regulation of the Institute of Health Sciences. Qualification Conditions and Rules The master program consists of at least seven courses, a seminar course and a thesis study, with a total of not less than 21 credits. The master program consists of at least eight courses including the seminar course and at least 120 ECTS credits in total, not less than 60 ECTS credits per academic term. 1 ECTS is equivalent to 30 hours of workload. Even if the student has credit transfer courses, the student must receive at least half of the total credit required by the program to which he / she is affiliated, from his / her own program. If the advisor deems appropriate and necessary, courses from other programs can also be selected. Students must have their thesis study written in accordance with the ‘Health Sciences Institute’ Thesis Writing Guide. 'Lokman Hekim University Regulation on Graduate Education and Training' is taken as a basis in the assessment of students' course success. Aim of Program “Medical Microbiology Master Program (With Thesis)” has learned the basic characteristics of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites and the pathogenetic mechanisms that cause infection development, has theoretical and practical knowledge about microbiological diagnostic methods, has a good command of working disciplines in the microbiology laboratory, has gained academic experience and perspective, It is a program that aims to train scientists who follow scientific developments, have reached the level of expertise in the field of medical microbiology, can evaluate the results of the study, have the ability to transmit the obtained data in written and oral form, and will gain the opportunity to continue their careers in universities as academicians after graduation.     7. Graduates gain the competence to present a research in the field of microbiology in written, oral and visual form and to be prepared for publication.

In a master program with thesis, a student has to prepare a thesis related to his / her field, write the results of his / her thesis in accordance with the institute's thesis writing rules and defend his / her thesis verbally before the jury. The graduation date of the student is the date of the thesis exam in which the master thesis is accepted.
