    General Information

    Physiology Master's Program is carried out within the body of Lokman Hekim University Institute of Health Sciences and within the framework of the relevant regulations. The aim of the Physiology Master's program is to train physiology master's graduates who have reached graduate level knowledge in the field of physiology, literature knowledge and laboratory skills related to at least one research topic; equipped with educational skills to transfer their knowledge and skills to budding scientists; who can independently plan and carry out a research and present the data obtained for the benefit of science and humanity, produce new knowledge; who have the ethical and social qualities of a universal scientist.

    The Master's program consists of courses, seminars, thesis study and thesis defense exam. The language of instruction is Turkish and the duration of study is 2 years. There is a laboratory belonging to the Department of Physiology in our university. Apart from this, we also have two different research laboratories where research on physiology can be carried out. 

    Within the scope of the master's program carried out in our department, at least 21 credits and 120 ECTS program credits must be completed and a master's thesis must be prepared and successfully defended.

    The compulsory and elective courses specified in the program are given by the faculty members of our department. In addition, elective courses can also be taken from the institutes within Lokman Hekim University. An average of 4 students are accepted to the program each year.

    Graduates of the Physiology Master's Program can take part in academic positions in the Physiology Departments of the Faculties of Medicine of all universities. They can carry out projects in the field of health in public institutions or private sector. Our graduates can continue their studies in various universities or research units abroad. They can also work in R&D departments of institutions or companies.

    Admission and Registration Requirements

    Student applications to the proposed program, entrance exams (written / interview), calculation of the general success score and placement of students are made in accordance with Lokman Hekim University Institute of Health Sciences Graduate Education and Training Directive. In addition, before each application period, with the recommendation of the relevant department and the decision of the institute board of directors, the special conditions, entrance exam place and date are determined and announced before the application.

    Graduates of the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Biology and Molecular Biology and Genetics of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and those who have a bachelor's degree deemed appropriate by the Academic Board of the Department can apply to the proposed program. Other candidates may apply if they are deemed appropriate by the Academic Board of the Department and the Graduate School Board. Turkish or foreign students from foreign countries must have a certificate of equivalence or recognition from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). For applications to the proposed program, it is necessary to have ALES (SAY / EA) score to be determined by the Graduate School Board, provided that it is not less than 55.  

    Students who meet the application requirements are taken to the scientific evaluation exam (written and / or interview). 

    In the calculation of the overall success grade, ALES score, graduation grade point average and the results of the scientific evaluation exam are taken into consideration. According to the general success grade ranking, the student is entitled to final registration within the quota specified.  

    Recognition of Prior Learning

    Recognition of prior learning is regulated in accordance with Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Training Regulations.

    Qualification Requirements and Rules

    In order to graduate from the Physiology Master's Program, a total of one education period of the student consists of at least 21 credits and 120 ECTS credits, including compulsory and elective courses, seminar, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis study, provided that it is not less than 30 ECTS. Undergraduate courses do not count towards the course load and graduate courses. Students must successfully complete their courses with an average of at least 3.00.  'Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations' are taken as basis in the evaluation of students' course success.

    Purpose of the Program

    This master's program covers a 2-year period consisting of theoretical courses and applications. The aim of the Physiology Master's Program is to train science experts who have a certain knowledge and skill accumulation in the field of physiology; who have gained the ability to conduct scientific research, access information, evaluate and interpret information; who have the ethical and social qualities of universal scientists.

    Program Qualifications (Outcomes)

    To have sufficient basic knowledge in medical physiology and other basic medical sciences to support physiology knowledge, to evaluate and develop this knowledge with a critical approach.

    To be able to access, question and assimilate field-specific knowledge by using the right sources. Recognizes the necessity of lifelong learning; follows the developments in science and technology and constantly renews himself/herself.

    Defines the functioning of human cells, tissues, organs and systems and their coordination with each other. Explains their interaction with the environment.

    Understands the effects of the nervous, endocrine and immune systems, which are known as the basic control systems in the human organism, on other systems.

     

    Knows the importance of communication with other related medical sciences and uses his/her knowledge and problem solving skills in interdisciplinary studies.

    Has the ability to make presentations and transfer information.

    Plans scientific research on subjects related to the field, conducts it independently and / or as a team, has knowledge about statistics, uses the necessary software correctly, proposes solutions to problems.

    Has knowledge about and the ability to use basic laboratory equipment and specialized equipment related to the field of study.

    To have knowledge about laboratory safety and research ethics, to observe these values in the stages of data collection, interpretation and announcement. Uses resources efficiently in their studies by considering the cost-effectiveness relationship.

    Writes the report of the research he / she has done / participated in, publishes it in national and / or international refereed journals, and presents it at scientific meetings. Continues to develop scientific activities.

    Employment Opportunities

    Graduates of the Physiology Master's Program can take part in academic staff in the Departments of Physiology of universities and apply to doctoral programs. They can continue their studies in various universities or research units in Turkey or abroad. They can also work in R&D departments of institutions or companies.

    The grading of all educational studies and exams of the student is based on Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Training Regulations.

    Graduation Requirements

    In order for a student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Physiology Master's Program to graduate, he / she must meet the relevant provisions of Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations

    Students are required to complete the compulsory credits during the course period of the Physiology Master's program, prepare their thesis during the thesis period and be successful in the thesis defense.

    Mode of Study

    The mode of operation is full time. If necessary, courses and exams can be held after the end of working hours on weekdays and/or on Saturdays and Sundays.
