  • Halal Product Development Master's Degree (with thesis)

    General Information

    Halal Product Development Master's Program with Thesis was approved by the decision taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated July 21, 2023 and opened within Lokman Hekim University Institute of Health Sciences. The program is carried out by faculty members who are experts in the fields of health sciences, food engineering and theology. In addition, experts in the field of Halal products and services who are currently working in the private sector or public sector are assigned as guest lecturers at Lokman Hekim University and support is received. The language of instruction is Turkish.

    Admission and Registration Requirements

    Student applications, admission and final registrations to the Halal Product Development Master's Program with Thesis are made in accordance with Lokman Hekim University Institute of Health Sciences Graduate Education and Training Directive. In addition, before each application period, with the recommendation of the Department and the decision of the Institute Board of Directors, the special conditions required for the applicants, the place and date of the entrance exam are determined and announced before the application.

    Graduates of faculties related to health, science and social sciences such as faculties of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, health sciences, engineering, theology, economics and administrative sciences, business and tourism, etc. can apply to the program.

    Turkish or foreign students who have completed undergraduate programs in foreign countries must have a certificate of equivalence or recognition from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

    For applications to the program, it is necessary to have ALES (SAY / EA) score determined by the Institute Board, provided that it is not less than 55.

    In the applications of Turkish or foreign students who have completed their undergraduate programs in foreign countries to master's programs with thesis, instead of ALES result, equivalent scores accepted as equivalent to ALES (GRE, GMAT and similar) and announced by the Council of Higher Education are also accepted.

    Students who meet the application requirements are taken to the scientific evaluation exam (written and/or interview).

    The calculation of the overall success grade is made by taking into account the ALES score, undergraduate graduation grade point average and the results of the scientific evaluation exam. According to the general success grade ranking, within the specified quota, the student is entitled to final registration.

    Qualifications of Prior Learning

    Successful students who have studied at least one semester in graduate programs of the university or other higher education institutions can apply for transfer to another graduate program conducted at the university. In order for the applications to be accepted; There must be graduate transfer student quotas, the student must have met the student admission requirements of the graduate program to which the student wants to transfer and must be successful in each of the courses taken by studying at least one semester of graduate education.

    Acceptance and adjustment of students applying for transfer are carried out in accordance with the relevant articles of Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.

    Qualification Requirements and Rules

    In order to graduate from the Halal Product Development Master's Program with Thesis, the student must complete at least seven courses, a seminar course and a thesis study, with a total of not less than twenty-one credits. Seminar course and thesis study are non-credit and are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. A master's program with thesis consists of a total of at least 120 ECTS credits, including at least eight courses including a seminar course and thesis study, provided that an education period is not less than 60 ECTS credits. 1 ECTS is equivalent to 30 hours of workload.

    In the transfer request of the student from courses taken from other higher education institutions, the total credits of the courses to be transferred cannot exceed 50% of the total credits of the courses that the student must take in the graduate program in which the student is enrolled. At least half of the total credits required by the program to which they are affiliated must be taken from their own program. In addition, students can choose a maximum of two courses from the courses given in other higher education institutions with the recommendation of the head of the Graduate School Department and the approval of the Graduate School Board of Directors. The courses of the master's program with thesis must be successfully completed in a maximum of two years with a GPA of at least 2.50. The evaluation of the students' course success is based on the 'Lokman Hekim University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations'.

    Gains the ability to transfer the theoretical and practical knowledge gained through discipline-specific education in the field of Halal Product Development to the fields of study.

    Gains the ability to identify problems in the field of Halal Product Development, analyze them with analytical methods, examine and evaluate them with current literature.

    Gains the ability to collect and interpret scientific information in line with ethical principles, to conduct, manage and evaluate studies that will guide national and international plans and policies by considering the individual and society.

    Uses his/her knowledge and skills for the development of his/her colleagues.

    Gains the ability to follow scientific publications, written and oral communication.

    Gains awareness of lifelong learning at national and / or international level during and after education and the ability to continuously renew himself/herself.

    Graduates of the Halal Product Development Master's Program with Thesis can apply to the relevant doctoral programs that accept students when they meet the other necessary conditions.


    Assessment and Evaluation

    Students are given a course success grade for each course at the end of the semester in which they are enrolled.  The course success grade is obtained by evaluating the success of the student during the semester (midterm exams, homework, applied studies, projects, laboratories and similar studies) and the general exam together. Program courses must be successfully completed in a maximum of two years with a GPA of at least 2.50.

    Graduation Requirements

    In order to graduate from the Halal Product Development Master's program with thesis, the student must have successfully completed all the courses in the program, provide a minimum of 120 ECTS credits, and have a GPA of at least 2.50 out of 4.00. After completing the courses, a student in the master's program with thesis has to prepare a thesis related to his/her field, write the results of his/her thesis in accordance with the thesis writing rules of the institute and defend his/her thesis orally in front of the jury. The student's graduation date is the date of the thesis exam in which the master's thesis is accepted.
