Master’s Degree on Cellular and Molecular Medicine (With Thesis)
General Information
Lokman Hekim University, Interdisciplinary Cellular and Molecular Medicine Master’s Degree Program with Thesis was opened by the resolutions passed by the Executive Council of Higher Education at the meetings dated 24.03.2021 and 31.03.2021. The education period of program is 2 years and the course language is Turkish. Approximately 5 students are accepted to Program every year. The molecular medicine investigates the genomic, epigenetic and proteomic technologies as well as prognosis, diagnosis and treatment approaches and molecular mechanisms leading to diseases. The objective of this Program is to educate young academicians who will reinforce their knowledge on the Basic Medicine Sciences and support laboratory works in order to transfer molecular structure and mechanism of diseases to the active and innovative scientific environment. It is intended to understand the mechanisms underlying the diseases and create a pool of scientists that can display molecular approaches for fighting against diseases. This program aims to pave the way for the academic work force and educate young researchers who have academic objectives, are able to establish coordination among the branches of science, and do and implement research. This Program is carried out by the academic members of Interdisciplinary Department specialized in different sciences of medicine. Approximately 5 students are accepted to Program every year.
Acquired Degree
Master’s Degree on Interdisciplinary Cellular and Molecular Medicine
Acceptance and Enrolment Conditions
Graduates from the Medical Schools, Dentistry, Faculties of Veterinary and Pharmacy, those who have a bachelor’s degree from the Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Physics and Physical Engineering, and Electronic Engineering and other faculty graduates who have a bachelor’s degree as deemed appropriate by the recommendation of Department Academic Board and by the Faculty Board may apply to Interdisciplinary Cellular and Molecular Medicine Master’s Degree Program with Thesis. The applicants will be accepted if they meet the required conditions. They may also benefit from the horizontal transfer quota. Student’s application for, acceptance and final enrolment to this Program is carried out in accordance with Postgraduate Education Instruction of Institute of Medical Sciences, Lokman Hekim University. Furthermore, specific conditions required from the applied students, place and date of entrance exam are determined with recommendation of Department and Institute’s Management Board’s resolution prior to each application period; it is announced prior to applications. Turkish or foreign students who have completed an undergraduate program in foreign countries must have a certificate of equivalence or certificate of recognition issued by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). The score for ALES (SAY/EA) must not be less than 55 for the applications to program as determined by the Institute Board. The students who meet the application conditions must take the scientific assessment exam (written exam and/or interview). Calculation of general final grade is based on the ALES score, grade point average of undergraduate graduation and the result of scientific assessment exam. The students will be entitled to final enrolment within the specified quota on the basis of general final grade ranking.
Recognition of Previous Studies
Recognition of previous studies is subject to Postgraduate Education and Exam Regulation of Lokman Hekim University.
Qualification Conditions and Rules
To be graduated from the Interdisciplinary Cellular and Molecular Medicine Master’s Degree Program with Thesis, the students are required to complete minimum 21 credits and 120 ECTS (minimum seven courses, seminar course and thesis study). Seminar course and thesis study do not require any credits and are considered pass/failure. Even if the student has courses with credit transfer, they must take minimum half of the total credit required by their program from their own program. If the counselor deems appropriate and necessary, they may chose courses from other programs. Postgraduate Education and Exam Regulation of Lokman Hekim University shall apply to assessment of student course success.
Objectives of Program
The objective of the Interdisciplinary Cellular and Molecular Medicine Master’s Degree Program with Thesis is to enrich the molecular and cellular research with a master’s degree program and then prepare for the doctorate study in the same filed. The Interdisciplinary Cellular and Molecular Medicine Program will contribute to educating qualified scientists who will have research thinking and healthcare professionals who will have superior capabilities. So, this Program will be carried out by the Interdisciplinary Cellular and Molecular Medicine Department as organized by the academic members specialized in different branches of science within the Institute of Medical Sciences of our University. For this purpose, students graduated from this program are expected to have basic qualifications including research, critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, independent decision-making, monitoring current scientific information and technology, taking responsibility and accountability, being a leader for providing guidance to their colleagues, having professional values and ethical sensitivity.
Program Qualifications (Acquirements)
- They develop an extensive and holistic perspective for the transfer of clinical applications of cellular and molecular medicine.
- They analyse the causes of physiopathologic processes underlying the diseases.
- They statistically analyse and interpret the data on biological systems.
- They are able to transfer the basic theoretical and practical knowledge they have to their own field.
