MEDICAL BIOCHEMISTRY (WITH THESIS)

  General Information Lokman Hekim University Medical Biochemistry Master Program was opened with the decision of the Higher Education Executive Board dated 02.09.2020. Biochemistry is a science that examines the organization and functions of biological systems at the molecular level and is closely related to many disciplines. Today, a good knowledge and practice of biochemistry is required to understand and treat diseases. Therefore, biochemistry is a science that can be instructive not only for those who have medical education but also for all individuals working in the fields of Health Sciences and Science. Biochemistry is a constantly evolving and dynamic science. It is exciting to follow these developments and contribute to the literature. This program is designed to train scientists with a high level of knowledge in the field of biochemistry and research methods in this field of science. At the end of the program, students will be individuals with scientific honesty who can follow current developments in the field of biochemistry, evaluate them critically, and take part in multidisciplinary studies. Degree Awarded Master’s Degree in Biochemistry Acceptance and Enrolment Conditions Students are admitted to the master program (with thesis) by taking a written and / or oral examination. The number of students to be admitted to the program and the qualifications required for prospective students are announced before the beginning of each term. In this announcement, the application conditions and the deadline, the place and date of the candidates are stated. Graduates of Medicine, Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Chemistry and Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics can apply to the program. Turkish or foreign students who have completed their undergraduate program in foreign countries must have the equivalence or recognition document they will receive from the Higher Education Council (YÖK). In applications for master programs (with thesis), the score type of the applied program must not be less than 55 points, the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) score determined by the relevant Institute Board and the Central Foreign Language Exams or the international foreign language exams accepted by Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). It is required to have a minimum base score for the foreign language determined by the head of the Departments and accepted by the Senate. Recognition of Prior Learning Those who have a diploma in Medicine, Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Biology, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics can apply to the Program. Turkish or foreign students who have completed their undergraduate program in foreign countries must have the equivalence or recognition document they will receive from the Higher Education Council (YÖK). Qualification Conditions and Rules In order to graduate from the Medical Biochemistry Master Program (With Thesis), the student must complete at least 21 credits and 120 ECTS (at least seven courses, seminar course and thesis study). The seminar course and thesis work are non-credit and are evaluated as successful / unsuccessful. Even if the student has credit transfer courses, the student must receive at least half of the total credit required by the program to which he / she is affiliated, from his / her own program. If the advisor deems appropriate and necessary, courses from other programs can also be selected. “Lokman Hekim University Regulation on Graduate Education and Training” is taken as a basis for the evaluation of students’ course success. Aim of Program The aim of the program is to train scientists who have detailed theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of Biochemistry, who can follow the latest developments in the field, who can conduct academic research and / or education in biochemistry or work in industry as qualified. Program Qualifications (Outcomes)

1. Graduates have basic theoretical knowledge about biochemistry that can help to understand biochemistry.
2. Graduates have basic laboratory knowledge used in the field of biochemistry. Knows Basic Laboratory Equipment and Methods, In-vitro working methods, Basic Laboratory Methods adaptation to Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory.
3. Graduates analyse the information critically.
4. Graduates synthesize knowledge in their field from different aspects and adapt them to new situations.
5. Graduates evaluate critically the researches in their field.
6. Graduates can access databases related to their field and use the knowledge they have acquired.
7. Graduates perform all processes such as examining scientific articles, asking scientific questions, forming hypotheses, planning experiments, and interpreting data with minimal guidance.
8. Graduates can transfer their knowledge and work harmoniously in groups on joint projects.
9. Graduates know Spectrophotometer, Electrophoresis, Molecular Biological Techniques, Immunochemical Techniques, Clinical Chemistry Methods, and other techniques required according to their field of interest and thesis subject.
10. Graduates contribute to Basic Education Skills and applied education processes.

Employment Opportunities Those who successfully graduate from the program will be able to continue their academic life with doctoral education, work in various public institutions and organizations, private sector or company R&D departments, and find a position as an educator in associate degree programs. Transition to Higher Degree Programs Students who graduate from the Medical Biochemistry Master Program (With Thesis) can apply to doctoral programs when they meet the other required conditions. Assessment and Evaluation Course success grade is given to students for each course at the end of the term they are enrolled. ourse success grade is obtained by evaluating the success of the student during the term (midterm examinations, homework, applied studies, projects, laboratory, and similar studies) and the general examination. Program courses must be successfully completed in two years at most, with a minimum GPA of 2.50. Graduation Conditions The students must be successful by taking the previously specified courses and fulfilling the criteria, and then write their work on the thesis in accordance with the ‘Health Sciences Institute Thesis Writing Guide. “Lokman Hekim University Regulation on Graduate Education and Training” is taken as a basis for the evaluation of students’ course success. A master's degree diploma (with thesis) is awarded to a graduate student who has submitted at least three bound copies of his master's thesis to the relevant institute within one month from the date of entry to the thesis exam, provided that he succeeds in the thesis exam and meets the other requirements for graduation determined by the Senate. Education Type Program courses must be successfully completed in two years at most, with a minimum GPA of 2.50.
