Message from the Head of Department
As the Department of Midwifery within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Lokman Hekim University, our primary goal is to educate midwives who are equipped with scientific knowledge, committed to ethical principles, aware of their professional responsibilities, socially sensitive, and grounded in evidence-based practice. Our curriculum is structured in alignment with national health policies and global health goals, with a contemporary approach that prioritizes individual, family, and community health.
Midwifery is a multifaceted profession that extends beyond technical skills, requiring strong communication, ethical sensitivity, and cultural competence. In this context, our department is dedicated to fostering students’ critical thinking abilities, promoting effective participation in interdisciplinary teamwork, and supporting their professional development through a lifelong learning perspective.
It is well-documented that countries where the midwifery care model is effectively implemented demonstrate improved maternal and neonatal health indicators, alongside increased rates of safe, positive, and intervention-free birth experiences. Guided by this scientific evidence, we remain committed to training professionals who embrace, implement, and enhance the midwifery care model.
Our foremost priority is to ensure that our students, as future health professionals, serve society with not only knowledge and skill but also a deeply internalized understanding of ethical and professional values. It is a great honor for us to guide them on this journey and contribute to their growth.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Didem Şimşek Küçükkelepçe
