  • Freedom Step by Step: Özgür Köy Treatment Approach

During the treatment process, our patients participate in a structured 12-session "Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SAMBA)" consisting of education on smoking, alcohol, and substance addiction, detoxification, and maintenance treatment with medication, as well as recreational activities such as painting, sports, music, reading, puzzles, chess, backgammon, handicrafts, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, hobby garden, bazaar, cinema, breakfast, sports competitions, etc. Additionally, regular group therapies are conducted every Tuesday for the families of our inpatient and outpatient follow-up patients, as it is an integral part of addiction treatment. After completing the inpatient treatment process, our patients are contacted and followed up by our psychologist and social worker at regular intervals, and if necessary, they are guided to restart treatment. The treatment process is decided by the treatment team consisting of the clinical director, specialist doctor, psychologist, social worker, and nurse. Individual therapy and family counseling sessions are conducted by the case manager psychologist/social worker.

Özgür Köy Treatment Approach: Progressing Towards a Healthy Life

The meetings and activities in our treatment program aim to help you and other patients take steps towards a healthier life. These activities are important for supporting your treatment process and contributing to feeling better together. Here's the purpose of these activities:

Sports: Physical activity is important not only for your physical health but also for your mental well-being. The substances released during exercise help reduce stress and add structure to your life.

Morning Meeting: At the beginning and end of the week, you can share your experiences. Here, tensions, difficulties, thoughts about alcohol and substance, and cravings are discussed. Challenges in transitioning to a clean and sober life are addressed, and solutions are sought.

Task Division: This is a planned meeting to help you regain daily life activities. It aims to improve task sharing, collaboration, and communication skills.

Book Hour: It is conducted to understand and gain reading habits about alcohol and substance use issues or to revive them.

Visitation: It aims to evaluate the medical and psychological conditions of patients by the treatment team. Discharge plans are determined here.

Family Group Therapy: It aims to increase interaction between patients and their family members. Families are provided with information about the illness, problems are discussed, and they are taught how to support the patient's clean life.

External Group Therapy: It is an interaction meeting held with patients who are currently sober. These meetings help patients better understand themselves and develop coping skills for addiction.

Interaction Groups with Inpatient Patients: It is organized among inpatient patients. Emotional expression and thought sharing are encouraged here. The goal is for you to better understand yourself and develop coping skills for addiction.

Social Activity: It is designed to explore different interests. It aims to show that clean and sober living can be filled with other joys.

Individual Therapies: These are supportive, motivational, mindfulness-focused, and cognitive-behavioral therapies for personal recognition and behavior change.

SAMBA Practices (Substance Abuse Treatment Program): SAMBA is a structured group practice aimed at coping with substance addiction through behavioral cognitive therapies.

12-Step Program: The 12-step program, designed to address addiction, and involves an analysis of one's entire life. The 12-step program is implemented at our center, including group sessions and individual step-writing exercises, led by experienced therapists.

Minnesota Model: The Minnesota model is a short-term, residential addiction treatment program that includes a 12-step approach aimed at achieving sobriety. It has become increasingly widespread in recent years. This model emerged from hospital-based approaches to alcoholism treatment in Minnesota in the 1960s. Minnesota model programs are usually 4-6 weeks long and consist of intensive daily lesson programs and group meetings, including structured residential programs to implement the 12-step healing plan. The Minnesota model is similar to the therapeutic community approach in that it is well-structured and every minute of the day is determined. Those providing counseling are often individuals who have participated in similar programs themselves. Throughout and after the treatment, addicts are encouraged to attend support group meetings such as AA and NA.

We are here to support you and other patients during your treatment process. Congratulations on taking this step to prioritize your health and pursue a better life. Our support will continue after discharge, and we will provide you and your family with the necessary information. We wish you a healthy future.
